Out of the Mouth of [Children]

This morning two dozen pre-K students put on a program at our Christian school of singing and quoting Scripture verses related to Christ’s coming in the flesh for their parents and grandparents. It was beautiful. It was moving. And it was humbling. “Out of the mouth of [children] has thou ordained strength” (Ps. 8:2)!

God To Us

I am excited to announce that Dr. Stephen Myer’s (PRTS professor) long-awaited book on covenant theology has been released by RHB (357 pages). It is a sterling blend of thoroughly sound and Reformed exegetical, biblical, historical, systematic, and experiential theology presented in both an academic and popular way, such that I believe it is the best basic book on the subject that I have ever read. This is a must read on a critical subject! Highly recommended!

My Son Calvin

Had a great time with my son Calvin today visiting his offices, fellowshipping over lunch, and giving him a tour of the new RHB store and warehouse. Here he is standing in front of the building he is renovating for new offices for his business of rental properties, renovating houses, real estate, etc. What joy our children give us when they walk in God’s ways and pursue constructive ventures. God is good!

Praying Prayerfully

In this message, I examine prayer as a means of worship and explain what it means to truly pray – to “prayerfully pray” – and how to lay hold of yourself to pray properly, and to lay hold of God in your praying.

7 Mile Bike Ride

On Saturday evening I enjoyed a wonderful 7 mile bike ride down a beautiful bike trail through the woods in North Carolina with my Queen. If you look close enough at the photo below you may see two deer in the background! But the best dear is at my side

Presently, we are en route from North Carolina to Grand Rapids. Thanks for praying us through another conference.

Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, North Carolina

We thoroughly enjoyed our Lord’s Day yesterday at Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. The people were warm, attentive, hungry, and appreciative. I preached in the morning on “The Spirit’s Role on Assurance of Salvation,” in the evening on “Assurance Means No Separation from Christ,” and for the Sunday School hour on “Assurance: How Do You Lose It and Renew It?”

I very much enjoyed fellowshipping with Rev. Matt Holst, the senior pastor of Shiloh (middle of photo 1), and Rev Gavin Beers, pastor in the Free Church (Continuing) (right on photo 1). We also spent a few edifying hours fellowshipping over dinner in the afternoon in the gracious Kirby home with several couples, including our good friends, Rev. Irfon Hughes (on my left in photo 2) and his wife Ann, and Kevin and Susan Heaphy (sitting across the table from Mary on photo 2).

The Lord God was in our midst on this blessed Lord’s Day.

Shiloh Presbyterian Church Conference

Mary and I are presently doing a conference for the Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, North Carolina for the weekend. They asked me to deliver six messages on assurance of faith. I have completed three so far and hope to preach the last three tomorrow. We also sold nearly all the books RHB sent to the conference. Here is the Queen managing the book table and looking over today’s sales (photo 1).

We’ve been enjoying meals and fellowship with the senior pastor and his wife, Matt and Stacey Holst (photo 2), as well as with Mark and Kristin Kirby (photo 3), who are graciously hosting and spoiling us in the beautiful house that Mark designed and built (photo 4).
